Athletic Hall of Fame
Hall of Fame Purpose--To establish a method for honoring former Orono High
School’s top student-athletes and individuals who have made a positive impact on the local community and to
provide role models for today’s student athletes.
Selection Process
All former Orono High School student-athletes, coaches, administrators, and special contributors are eligible for selection into the athletic hall of fame. The candidate must receive at least four out of seven votes to gain status as an inductee into the hall of fame.
Criteria for Student-Athletes
1. Superior accomplishments as a student-athlete @OHS, such as, All State,
all conference, or other significant accolades.
2. A graduate of OHS at least five years prior to nomination.
3. Continuing excellence at the collegiate, national, amateur, or professional
Level.
4. Clearly demonstrated integrity, sportsmanship, and citizenship before and
after graduation
5. Academic and post college career accomplishments
Criteria for Coaches, Administrators, Special Contributors
1. Significant contributions made to the athletic program, taking into ac- count longevity, overall coaching records, championships and program impact.
2. Significant contributions to community or professional organizations at the state and national levels that promote athletics.
3. Retirement from their position at OHS.
**We will not induct teams as we already have a trophy case and banner display that promote these accomplishments.
Nomination Process
Candidates may be nominated at any time during the year. Nomination forms may be obtained from athletic department located at the high school, or on the high school website. In order for a candidate to be considered, the form must be completely filled out and returned to the AD prior to May 1, of the given year.
Information on the form will include the following: (See form)
1. Contact information on the nominator and nominee
2. Why nominee is deserving of induction
3. For athletes, information on all varsity sports played at OHS, Year of graduation, athletic and academic accomplishments, current occupation,
and place of employment.
4. For admin, coaches, and special contributors, information on positions
held within the department. All accomplishments related to OHS and employment
history
**May also ask follow up questions of the nominator and may do further research as warranted.
Induction Process
Once a candidate is nominated, as long as they are deemed worthy of the nomination by the committee, his or her nomination stays on file and considered each year.
*Selection committee will meet between May 15 and June 15 to select the inductees, who will then be notified.
*Induction ceremony will take place in the winter at the beginning of the basketball season. (First two weekends)
--Brief overview of their accomplishments read over the public address system
--Plaque is presented to the inductee by person who nominated them.
--Name plate is then placed on our OHS Hall of Fame Board located in the main hallway
going to the entrance of the gymnasium
