Fall Musical and Spring One Acts Competition–Each fall OHS puts on a musical in the Orono Performing Arts Center, and each spring a group of high school students organizes an act to compete in the One Acts competition. All students are welcome to try out for caste or crew positions in these productions. Talk to the Guidance Office for more information
District 5–Each year select OHS students are invited by their music teacher to participate in the Maine Music Educator Association’s District 5 festivals. These include festivals in both choir and band. Talk to your music teacher for more information.
Beyond OHS–Our performing arts teachers recommend these opportunities outside of school for students seeking extra opportunities, though they are not officially affiliated with our program.
- Bangor Youth Symphony Orchestra (BYSO)--BSYO is an audition-based youth orchestra, independent of but recommended by the school district. Students interested in joining this group should talk to their music teacher.
- The Maine Summer Youth Music Camp (MSYM)-- MSYM is a summer music camp hosted by the University of Maine and staffed by extremely talented musicians from around Maine. Though this camp is independent of our school district, our music teachers recommend it highly as a place for students to expand upon their musical interests. Talk to your music teacher for more information.
