About OHS

Orono High School - Home of the Red Riots

Orono High School is a comprehensive high school of approximately 370 students from the Town of Orono and surrounding towns. Located on the banks of the Penobscot River, Orono is also the home of the University of Maine, which provides our students with unique enrichment opportunities. At Orono HS, we pride ourselves in offering big school opportunities in a small school setting. Our teachers and staff are committed to cultivating responsible and passionate learners and developing meaningful relationships with our students that last a lifetime. 85% of our students participate in a school-sponsored activity, and we offer sixteen athletic teams and twenty-five clubs and organizations.

Academic offerings include AP courses, the Graduation with Distinction Program, early college courses, internships, and career and technology education through our partnership with the United Technologies Center in Bangor. Our current senior Class of 2017 contains three National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists, which makes us one of only nine high schools in the state with three or more semifinalists.

Orono High School is also home to the OHS-International Program where students from around the world live with host families and attend OHS for the academic year. This year we have fourteen students from many countries around the world, including China (2), Germany (2), Netherlands (4), South Korea (4), and Viet Nam (2).
